“In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

Reflection

GOING THROUGH THE FIRE

Tomorrow, the MECQ for NCR ends, and we don’t know what happens next. What we do know is we are far from returning to normal. And that there are still challenges in the days ahead.

Peter, in this passage, exhorts the believers to rejoice, in the midst of severe trials. Christians were being persecuted, sent to gory deaths.

His metaphor of gold going through the fire for purification is very vivid. He declares that our faith, far more worth than gold, is being purified by the trials we go through today.

Let us persevere. Let us keep the faith, as we go through the fire of the present pandemic. At the end of the tunnel, we will emerge stronger in our faith.

And ultimately, this brings praise, honor, and glory to our Lord.

What to Pray For This Week

1. As we end the 2-week MECQ timeout called by our frontliners, let us pray for wisdom for our leaders to define the path for recovery for our nation - addressing both the health and economic issues that are now affecting millions of our countrymen. Let us pray for God’s intervention at this time to reverse the tide.
2. For WOW
   that we, as a church, may look at the crisis we face to day, as a challenge to persevere and strengthen our faith - putting all of our trust in Jesus, that He will see us through these difficult times.
3. For our families
   pray for continued protection and provision for our needs.
