Membership and Baptism

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” – Ephesians 2:19

The Bible describes two types of church membership. The first is membership within the universal Body of Christ — one body of believers that transcends space and time, based solely on faith in God’s grace and Christ’s merit (1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 2:13-22, 4:3-6; Colossians 1:13-22). The second is membership within a specific local assembly (Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:25-31, 14:12, 26; Hebrews 10:24-25; 1 Timothy 3:14-15).

Membership at Without Walls isn’t like membership in a social club, where members are consumers. The church is a totally different kind of community, where members commit to love, give, care for each other and serve others. To be a member of Without Walls then means you don’t want to be just a passive spectator or sanctified consumer. It means you’ve made a decision to be an active participant in what God is doing in your city through the local church.
